H2EXPO & CONFERENCE 2023: 28 - 29 June 2023

The H2EXPO & CONFERENCE will now take place every year!

Because of the great success of the H2EXPO & CONFERENCE and its growing relevance for energy policy, Hamburg’s international network for the hydrogen industry will be strengthened further. To support the international, cross-sector ramp-up of the hydrogen market, the H2EXPO & CONFERENCE will therefore take place annually, offering a platform for innovation drivers from politics and business. In 2023 the H2EXPO & CONFERENCE will be held as a stand-alone event. The following year, in 2024, it will once again run in parallel with WindEnergy Hamburg from 24 to 27 September.

From now on the H2EXPO & CONFERENCE will take place annually; in even-numbered years it will always be held in parallel with WindEnergy Hamburg

WindEnergy Hamburg & H2EXPO & CONFERENCE 2022: a powerful team!

Around 57,000 participants from 92 countries attended WindEnergy Hamburg 2022 from 27 to 30 September and were given the opportunity to visit the H2EXPO & CONFERENCE 2022, as well, which took place in parallel. The intense networking activities between the wind and hydrogen industries which have evolved in recent times were evident not only at many exhibition stands but also in many speeches and panel discussions on the four stages.

1,400 minutes of content presented on the stage of the H2EXPO & CONFERENCE attracted more than 6,500 visitors across all four days. “The attendees showed enormous interest in the discussions and speeches of representatives from business and politics about the latest trends and the future of the international hydrogen economy,” said Bernd Aufderheide, President and CEO of Hamburg Messe und Congress GmbH, summarising the four days.

All 150 exhibitors involved in the hydrogen segment expressed their full satisfaction with the H2EXPO & CONFERENCE which took place in conjunction with WindEnergy Hamburg for the first time.

By producing and distributing clean hydrogen energy solutions for use in heavy-duty fuel cell vehicles, industrial applications and energy storage, Air Products will help support the hydrogen energy transition, minimising carbon emissions and reducing reliance on finite energy resources. The H2EXPO and CONFERENCE is an ideal platform to engage with all stakeholders and further advance the hydrogen economy.

Kawasaki has been active in hydrogen technologies for many years. Our unique technology portfolio, defined by the Kawasaki Hydrogen Road, covers the entire value chain of green hydrogen. We want to establish Japanese technology on the German and European markets. The H2EXPO & CONFERENCE provides us with an excellent opportunity to do so.

Since its establishment NOW GmbH has been advocating the visibility and acceptance of hydrogen technology, coordinating numerous support programmes of the Federal Ministry for Digital and Transport, such as the National Hydrogen and Fuel Cell Technology Innovation Programme (NIP). Without renewable energy there can be no Green Hydrogen: This is why WindEnergy Hamburg is exactly the right interface to provide a focused overview of regenerative fuels and hydrogen-based mobility and inform the industry about support programmes offered by the Federal Government.

We need lots of offshore and onshore wind to speed up hydrogen production and the combination of WindEnergy and H2EXPO & CONFERENCE led to an even higher number of qualified participants than we expected. And we had visits from key government leaders like the Turkish Minister of Energy. Coming to the point: We are very happy with the results of the H2EXPO & CONFERENCE.

Christopher K. Van Name, Director Corporate Marketing

Here in Hamburg we can clearly see the highly dynamic development the hydrogen industry is undergoing. We have used the stage of the H2EXPO & CONFERENCE to present our PEM electrolysers, and the subsequent conversations with industry visitors have clearly shown that together, and in the right economic conditions, it is possible to implement an efficient, economical and scalable energy transition. Events such as this are essential for bringing this potential to the markets.

"Hamburg Declaration" on the wind energy industry's response to the energy and climate crisis

Joint statement by BWE, GWEC, VDMA and WindEurope

Recent geopolitical events have exposed the world’s overreliance on an insecure and volatile fossil fuel supply. The war against Ukraine has made this situation even clearer.

Transitioning to a resilient and sustainable energy system with renewable electricity at its core is essential. With the "Hamburg Declaration", the partners of WindEnergy Hamburg have drafted a wake-up call with demands to politicians and presented it during WindEnergy Hamburg.
